Breakfast, the most important meal of the day, often tends to be just carbohydrate rich. It may provide us that quick energy boost but it may also make you feel very full and lethargic. More often than not your breakfast may also be devoid of the necessary vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. So how about a quick breakfast smoothie which not only gives us a feel good factor, but also gives us the daily dose of natural nutrients and energises us to kick start the day?
Smoothie or breakfast blend is a thick cold beverage which can serve the purpose of a quick breakfast. It can be made with just fruits or vegetables and additional ingredients like dairy or non dairy milk, yogurt, cream, nuts etc. With the variety of ingredients available, innumerable different types of smoothies can be created. Smoothies can be decadent and healthy at the same time depending on the choice of the ingredients. Here is a recipe for a smoothie with ingredients that are easily available at home. Bananas are a great source of energy and rich in vitamins and minerals. They are rich is potassium and calcium and also on fibre. Dates are also a good source of iron and proteins apart from being loaded with vitamins and minerals. Pineapple and lemon juice are a good source of Vitamin C. Add milk or cream to the above ingredients and blend them all together to create a lip smacking and healthy smoothie.
Ingredients
- Pineapple slices(canned) – 4-5
- Date Syrup – 2 tbsp
- Ripe bananas – 2
- Lemon juice – 1 tsp
- Almond powder – 1 tbsp
- Cold milk or soya milk – 300 ml
Method
- Chop bananas and pineapple and blend them together with the date syrup, almond powder and lemon juice.
- Add milk and blend everything together till smooth.
- Pour in tall glasses and serve cold.
Date syrup can be replaced by 4-5 dates. Milk can be cows milk or full fat milk depending on the richness desired. For the non-dairy version of the smoothie, soya milk can be used. Almonds are a good source of Vitamin E. Go ahead and make this delicious energy drink for breakfast tomorrow.
